Help with led tail lights

I am looking for some help with led tail lights. I just had a flat bed installed on the truck with led tail lights. The problem is that the cruise control will not work. The only way I got it to work is by wiring a stock brake light in parallel with the led. I don't have spot to keep light socket/bulb safe from the environment so I removed the socket to wire in some resistors. I wired the resistors from green to black and brown to black and orange to black and brown to black on the other side. The only ones I could get my hands on where 1/8 watt which opened up. I tried reading up on this before asking for help but came up short only found that a load resistor was needed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
