Power locking tool box

Been toying around with an idea here. I keep some very expensive bunker gear in my tool box so as to free up my rear seat but I must choose between leaving the toolbox unlocked for quick access and risk getting the stuff stolen, or leaving it locked to protect it but then I have to fumble around with keys and such when I need to get in there in a hurry. Has anyone heard of putting a power lock actuator on the toolbox lock and wired it into the power locks on the truck? I don't think it'd be all too hard just want to know if it already exists. Thanks!

I havent seen an aftermarket one, but it shouldnt be too hard to modify what you have.It might be easier to have the actuator actually open the box (pull back the catch from the inside) as opposed to the actuator undoing the key mechanism that locks it.

Might have to wire up a diode circuit so that it only operates on the unlock pulse , because you wouldnt want it opening when you hit the lock button. You could go old school and make a "Trunk Release" button in the cab, and push it to open it.

I have been dreaming of something like this for my lo-rider tonneau, but I have the trunk button on my remote start that I was going to wire the actuator to.

Sounds like a good idea, look forward to seeing the results.

They make that type of lock/actuator for talgates of trucks replaces the talegate handle and unlocks with the doors. Easy to wire in. you may be able to modify it to work with your setup.
