has anyone ever made one of those tools for crimping the edge of sheetmetal so you can set teh patch pammel in and have it sit flush? Iv been searching online but it would help if i rememberd what it was called. Im going to be installing a new patch in teh rear box side and want it to sit flush before i weld in

Its called a panel flanger it creates a step the thickness of the metal. We made our own in the race shop. You have to have someone machine a step in two pieces of metal with a stop on one piece. We always welded them in a pair of vise grip pliers. Check eastwood's website

ahhh yes thats was i was looking for. I was just thinking of taking some small angle and cutting off most of the one edge and having a pc of flatbar for the other side and weld them to a pair of vicegrips...
