Core Support Cracking

I've got 2 large cracks in my core support that start on the top and continue down the front to the opening. They line up just about the edges of the radiator. I'm more concerned about what the hell would cause something like this than I am about fixing it. Anybody got any ideas??????????

ive seen that a few times with an older body style , vibration and body flex is the cause , weld a plate over it and paint it back, will be fine
