2x4 to 4x4

i have a 95f250 its 2x4 with a automatic trans. i am getting the stock front axle from a 95 f250.(its free) so my question is do i need to buy an automatic from a 4x4 truck or can i just change the output shaft on my transmission??

If your wanting to do this and all you have is the axle. I would strongly recommend getting a divorced t-case with the drop on the proper side.

The other option would be to get a transmission and manual shift t-case out of a 4x4 truck. There is more to it then just swapping out the tail cone of the transmission.
