Trans Removal
can it be done without a lift or is it not worth all the extra work, and just take it to the shop?

Yes it can be done without a lift. Its up to you on who does it, how dirty do you wanna get?

Its possible, at least have few jacks around for the trans.

yeah jacks aint' a problem, and I don't mind gettin dirty, just didn't know about gettin the trans out from under the truck, and lifted back up. I will call a shop and get a price to.

i found it was easier to do without the lift, cause the top two bolts and the bolt for the dipstick are a pain.. i've done this three times alone, and once with a friend...its a messy job...after a while you get good at it...

I haven't pulled a trans on a 4X4 before so any pointers would be great!

Are you going to take your transfer case off? or leave them attached until you take the trans out?
I've seen people leave the transfer in tact with the tranny...the tranny is heavy and awkward enough...i think it would be easier to seperate the transfercase from the tranny right away...
