No different from the others

My tranny is following the light at the end of the tunnel and i need to know the cheapest, most dependable, option as far as building up a E40D.

1. Can a person get a remanufactured one minus the TC and valve body and whatever else gives these things better performance, and add on the high performance stuff individually? Would this work? I don't have a fortune to spend but need it to be very reliable for a long time.

I don't sled pull, mud race, or drag race. But I could pull a heavy load every so often, daily driver, etc.

I need a straight up answer: WHAT IS THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK? IF I WAS LOOKING AT SPENDING NO MORE THAN $2000, WHAT WOULD BE THE OPTION YOU WOULD GO? i'd like to spend less, but that's about all i could beg, borrow, and steal.

options: Ford reman. tranny. Add a High performance TC?
do i need a high performanc valve body?
what else?
I can't have a lot of downtime either. i'd be willing to find a E40D have it rebuilt, and use mine for a trade or core, and just slap it back in there. I'm in KY so anyone know of a transmission shop that would have one i could just go pick up, put in mine, and bring mine back? I'll do all the labor and wrenching, just can't rebuild a transmission.
Thanks men, hopefully someone will answer
