It is probably the synchro ring (it was on mine) if it is that bad and all other gears are fine. Cheers!

Its more of an annoying thing (at least it was for mine) so if you can live with it, you should be good for awhile. For me, I needed 2nd when towing the trailer (empty was no problem) at low speeds and downshifting got near impossible. I bought a ZF-factory remanufactured unit for $1800. You could probably have yours rebuilt for a lot less. Cheers!

Thank you

I appreciate your time, I have found $1550 for remanufactured trans doesn't seem too bad to swap out, I think i could do myself.

If you can get or borrow a tranny jack, it is very helpful. The trannies are fairly heavy. I found it easier to remove the shifter and the stub (just don't lose the square white plastic bushings down into the tranny when you take the shifter stub out). Cheers!

The rebuild kit(bearing, syncros an seals) is about $250. So 1500 for a "reman" is a rip off to me. My trans guy charges me $450 to hand him a ZF and rebuild it
