Thumbs down E4OD huntin in junkyard

Chief just called me and his tranny is crappin on him 80 miles away from home. said tranny was covered in fluid, smoke comin from dipstick tube, stick was dry.

so it looks like he's gonna be junkyardin one.

my questions are, what can we look for to make sure we avoid a crap one, aside from lookin for obvious stuff.

also, what OTHER ford vehicles are these in besides PSD's?

He is better off to get his rebuilt. Cost of the junkyard one compared to a rebuilt is not much different. Plus the rebuild will have warranty.

I like AAMCO transmissions myself. I have dealt with them on my truck and previous trucks I owned.

PSD

THE e-40 d IN A GASSER IS NOT THE SAME AS THE e40d IN A PSD.

My 99' F-150 has a E4OD in it. The engine is a 5.4 Triton for what it's worth.
