E4OD whooshing sound

Well i was on my way home from work and i went to get on the interstate and the tranny acted very weird it made a somewhat of a whooshing sound compareable to when you hit a puddle of water and it splashes on the fender liner. Accompaning the sound it was real sluggish until what seemed like the t/c locked then it ran like normal it did it in all gears. Lately ive been having a loud grinding noise when i get over say 1750 rpms but nothing like this. What could this be. I have little to no experience with automatics. Most of my vehicles have always been manuals.
