o/d is flashing and very hard shifts in my 97 f350

hey guys i know there is some other threads with guys having the same problem but i didnt want to butt in on there thread .... i am having a problem with my shifting and i noticed the o/d light was flashing ....i thought it was only happening when the truck was cold than today i noticed the o/d flashing for the first time .... before that the truck would rev out and than slam into gear the problem stoped when i shut truck off and turned it back on but than i noticed it shifting way to early and somtimes it will go back to shifting normal ... i just learned that the o/d light flashing is the check engine light for the trans .... the truck has a dp tuner i was wondering if that could be messing with the trans ... i will try to get codes asap bc i know those are very helpful but i am pretty new to the 7.3 as this is my first 7.3 so any help will be greatly appreciated
