Having Problem with E40D

Hi im new too the forum I have a 94 Ford F250 7.3 L idi with a E40D transmission i recently bought this truck and noticed that the transmission has started slipping when i put my foot to the floor it is slow to acceleration i looked at the transmission earlier today and noticed a steel tube running out of the transmission im thinking it might be a vacuum line but am not sure. Can someone please help me so i can get my baby back on the road.

so after talking t oa couple of friends in my four wheel drive club im thinking it is some type of breather for my transmission if it is would a hose be connected to it and were would it run and connect too

Thats just a cover. No hose is missing. If you take off that cover it gives you access to the torque converter and flywheel. I think you have a bigger problem is your trans is slipping, I d run a scan and see if it throws any codes. Is your O/D light flashing?
