How much am I looking at for a new transmission?

My '97 only has 115k on it but has recently been taking its sweet time shifting. I bought this as a daily driver for the next few years (and then a weekend truck) from a guy that owns a marina so I'd imagine its been used to haul some heavy stuff. If the transmission were to go out in the next couple years what would I be looking at price wise to replace it? What about for an upgraded one? I will be putting a chip on it in the next few months which I hope will help.

We used to have a '97 2500 suburban with an Allison that pulled two heavy boats al over the place throughout its life and it was awesome. Is there a kit out there to put an Allison on a PSD?

I am also going to change the transmission fluid and filter this spring as I am not sure the last time it was done or if it had been done.

When I had mine rebuilt it cost $1900 and they put a billet torque converter, shift kit and a bigger tranny cooler.

Indeed, the E4OD is much faster (at requiring a rebuild....).

Silly me, I saw the words "daily driver", and thought maybe the OP was thinking longevity rather than horsepower. Sorry.

I just stated the HP level as a example..will a stock stick out live a stock trans sure but Clutches still need replacing doesn't matter a auto or a stick..he has a auto now and a quality auto rebuild can last 100k++. and will just drop in.
