so what makes them so bad?

ive been shopping for an OBS for a while, and i keep reading to stay away from the auto trans. but i really cant find any reoccuring issues for them. can someone point me in the right direction of what to look at on them? what are thier weak points?

the rig will be used as a dd, and a tow rig for a 35foot travel trailer, est around 9-10k lbs and maybe a boat. nothing crazy.

also do they come stock/optioned with a trans cooler?

Yes they have a tranny cooler, kinda small located on the upper left front side of the radiator, as for good or bad, most get around 100k and then it's just a matter of time before they need an overhaul, just did mine at 117k, cost me $2200 but if I get another 100k outta it it's money well spent!! Diesels are hard on trannys.....

The torque convertors and valve bodies are the biggest weak points on these trucks. Replace those, and the trannies are pretty tough.
