97 P/S E4oD t/c lock up problem

Hey all, I have a 97 F350 powerstroke with a e4od transmission. Last night I bought a 20 foot poontoon boat and was towing it home. It was shifting lock up unlock back and forth going down the interstate. It would lock unlock in drive and overdrive. I have done a search and seen a brake light switch problem. The trailer brake lights were not working, could it be a problem with the trailer lights causing my T/C lock up problem? Trailer tail lights worked but when I applied brakes trailer lights would dim. It was late and I didn't have time to look at trailer brake lights.
BTW, It has 138K miles and has ran and shifted perfect until last night.

You solved your own problem it seems . These trannys will unlock convertor with a touch of the brake pedal .The trailer wiring connections are giving a signal for the convertor to unlock .
I bet it shifts without this trailer perfectly ,doesn't it ?
BTW ,congrats on the boat ,did you get a good deal ?

I fixed the trailer light ground and towed the boat again and trans works perfect.
I think I got a good deal on the boat but I'll let you know next weekend
