Can't get it out of park??? Very weird issue...

Alright was pulling a snowmobile trailer the other day, when all of a sudden it went into limb mode (I think). Started shifting hard, OD light was flashing as well as the ABS light.
Also the speedo stopped working and the digital miles/trip screen was empty....

Now when I start it up, it will not shift out of park. The second I do that the ABS starts flashing....to get it out of park, I need to have the truck off and put it into N. Then I can start it and shift into drive. It will drive but it shifts hard and the OD light comes on.

What the hell is wrong....never heard of anything like this??? Any ideas would be great!

Is the speedometer working or not? If not check the vss and wiring on rear axle first. No numbers showing in odometer sounds like a fuse or the psom took a dump. What do you mean you can't get it out of park? Does that mean after you start it and push down on brake you can't pull the shifter out of park or ???

Yes speedo stopped worked working the second it went into limb mod. Yes when putting the brake down and pulling down the sifter it won't shift. When doing that the ABS light starts flashing...

But like i mentioned above, if the truck is off, I can pull the shifter down....

Until you get the speedometer working again it will not come out of limp mode. It really sounds like a fuse blew or psom crapped out because I'm pretty sure even with a bad vss your odometer would still show numbers.

Sorry for my stupidity but what is a PSOM?

I will check the fuse's, but not sure that is the issue, bc when you turn the lights the whole dash cluster lights up.

Think I can rule out a bad tranny???

Psom is programmable speedometer module. What year is your truck? Lights are separate from the electronics. Hard to say if tranny is fine but if it was working like it should before the speedometer quit working it is probably fine but you don't want to keep driving it in limp mode.

It's a 95', yeah no plans to drive it anytime soon.

Can you buy the module or is part of the cluster...

There should be a fuse in your dash fuses.

Now you and everyone else is going to laugh at this, but your problem is very easily rectified. You have a dead short somewhere in your taillights, specifically the brake light system......find it and your problem is fixed. No B.S., been here done this with my son's '97. Same thing, same problems. His dead short was in the wires that went to his bed cap and the "third light" on the cap. He didn't have the cap on and the wire was shorting out against the side of the box. You were towing the snowmobile trailer, so I would start back there at the plug for the trailer lights. Another thing that I have found is that if you have a taillight bulb out, it will make the O/D light flash also. When our O/D lights start flashing, that is the first thing we check, and is usually the problem.
