cracked bell housing

so this is now number 2, anyone else having this problem? what could be causing it? it starts right around the starter.

Is this a manual or automatic?

auto, its just about off now I'm thinking the dowl pins might be missing in the block or a bad engine mount

I've worked on dozens of these trucks and never heard of it. The only thing that I can think of is if the starter bolts are to long and sticking out the back side of the trans adapter or the dowel pin is the wrong one and is to long.
