transmission swap

This isn't a powerstroke question, but I will ask anyway. I have a 96 F250 with a 351. It has a burned up transmission. A few people have told me to get rid of the E4OD, and put a c6 in it. Seeing that all I want do is use it as a wood hauler. Does anyone have any advice on this? I know that I will lose my overdrive, but the c6 is a much stronger transmission.

No reason it wouldn't work, going to need different drive shaft or shafts if 4x4. Also keep in mine the E4ods can be made very reliably also. I believe that 96 was actually last year the C6 was available.

I was told the original drive shafts worked for a guy who did the conversion in a bronco. And just for the record the reasoning for the change is I can get a c6 for about a quarter of the price of the E4OD.

Yeah come to think of it the C6 with transfer case adapter is within a 1/2" of the length of a E4od. I suppose that you will need to cut into the mlps harness to hook up reverse lights but I wouldn't jerk the other harness and computer in case you change your mind someday and want or need to go back to the E4od
