On my 97 7.3 I noticed the speedo was bouncing around, but it didnt do it often. Then the other day it started freaking out, and a day later the trans started to bug out and shift really weird. So I got home and put a new VSS in the rear. Took the truck out and it was fun, the about 30 mins later the speedo started freaking out again and the trans was just beginning to act weird so I parked it.
I pulled the VSS back out and cleaned the mounting surface and looked at the tone ring and everything seemed fine in there. I haven't pulled the cover yet to check play in the carrier yet tho.
So I was under there today and was checking some wiring and noticed that someone had spliced in the a new pig tail. So I checked for continuity to ground and on the green wire it buzzed when I touched ground, and the red one did a little but bearly at all. Does the green wire off the sensor go to ground?
And the other thing is when all of this was happening the OD light never flashed at all, I even unplugged the VSS and went around the block and it did the normal safe mode in the trans and the OD light did flash then. So Im at a loss here
