Transmission Problems

Just picked up a 96 model ccsb 2wd. Got it as a project truck and seller said trans was toast.
Got truck home a nd started messing with it and found the trans fluid was low. I added 5 quarts and truck shifts fine. Also the od light is flashing. Think the tranny is still bad?

The OD light flashing means there is tranny codes, so if it was that low you may have some codes in there from when it was low, such as a TOT (Trans over temp condition) or something else. I would pull codes out of it before you do anything else and see what it says.

Thanks. So is there a way for the trans to get rid of fluid ? Burn or leak that much? Just wondering why it was that low.

Its gotta be leaking some where. Check the pan gaket and also check the trannt lines also, they tend to leak. I would clean the whole truck underneath with a degreaser and drive it and see if you can spot the leaking problem.
