od light ahhhh crap

Well i bought my first powerstroke 2 weeks ago thought everything was good.drove nice and everything but noticed the OD light was flashing. and the truck was shifting really firm.didnt think anything of it till tonight when my buddy seen it and said his truck did the same thing and even shifted hard then he lost 2nd gear.well my truck does shift really hard 2 and 3 and normally in OD.iv ben reading up on the prob and its either the TC or somthing else but just wondering what i can do to fix it.im a newby by the way.not to diesels but to the forum here.

The OD off light in my 01 started flashing it would slip when starting off but when it wasn't flashing it shifted fine. The light flashes to warn of a problem most ignore it until like your friend they strip a gear and a rebuild is needed. With it shifting hard could just be a shift selinoid but regardless the cause will be cheaper to fix than the effect. A TC is cheaper than a rebuild

When th od light is flashing, the computer raises the trans hydralic pressure to keep the trans from slipping, this causes hard shifts. Find out why the od light is flashing, it has a code.

I agree found out what the code is.... maybe just a sensor or solenoid?

Thats why the light is there to tell you for a problem so to speak..
