'96 F250 4x4 Auto: No forward gears!!!

So my truck will not go into D, 2 or 1. If I put the selector in any of these gears it just acts as though it is in neutral. It does sound like it tries to engage. It goes into reverse just fine though. Just wondering what it could be, I don't know much about auto trannys, just hoping it won't be too steep. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I had this happen on my first psd,a 96 F350,It began to slip and then quit at a stop light. After it cooled down ,I was able too drive it home a short distance.I changed the filter and fluid and also drained the convertor. The only issue after that ,the convertor would "shudder" sometimes and lock up a bit later. I put another 25 k miles on it before selling it.BTW it had a rebuild at 150k, quit on me at 235 k.sold at 260 something.

TC gone... Time for a rebuild, or a BTS. Expect to pay 1700+ for a "stock" rebuild, and 3500+ for a built trans. BTS will run you like 4000 i think.

By TC do you mean torque converter? What is a BTS?

If it is a TC then it would do the exact same in reverse as in any forward gear. Sounds more like a forward clutch or a solinoid.

Yes i mean the torque converter. Brians Truck Shop, he builds bullet proof transmissions. I have never had one myself, i have a really good friend that has been building competition transmissions for almost 30yrs so he gets all of my work.

Re-read the OP, he says it has no forward gears, but goes into reverse just fine. TC not used in reverse... Means the TC is shot...

Then how on gods green earth do you get power to the trans in reverse?

That would be like saying I don't use my clutch in reverse.
