Best way to drain/flush E4OD 1997-98

I have a 1998 E350 which is basically a 1997 (they changed a bunch of stuff later in the year).

I've seen docs showing a way to drain/flush the fluid using the transmission pump by running the engine to pump the fluid out into a bucket using a clear hose, and more docs saying I should install an inline filter, but those assume rubber lines.

My E4OD has steel lines going to the cooler. Should I mess around with that at all, or leave it be and just drain the torque converter using the plug, and not worry about draining the cooler radiator?

Getting those lines on and off looks like it'd be a pain. But then, this pan has no drain plug, and getting ATF all over my self in order to empty it, seems like it'd be more of a pain.
