Had the same issue in a old 95 F150 when i tore into it the syncros looked fine but upon a closer inspection and talking to a tranny shop they said to pull them out and check and make sure they were not rounded over. It was a easy fix just took a file and cleaned everything up again. I also had a issue with the Shaft that holds the second bunch of gears. It had spun in the bearings so it had to be replaced. Just went to the scrap yard for the parts i needed. Took a chance and bought a core tranny... lucked out their was nothing wrong with it not even sure why it was in the core pile
