Turn signals/emergency button= trans downshift ?
I have a 1996 F-250 7.3 Crew Cab. Over the past year and out of the blue the trans would shift out of overdrive locke out at steady throttle for a second or two then go back into lockout. Recently the wife was driving the truck on the freeway and said everytime she used the turn signals the speed control kicked out. Low and behold I was finally able to duplicate that but also discovered that while driving without the s/c, but at steady throttle, the trans would kick out of overdrive lockout when I used the turn signals... That was intermitten... I decided to activate the emergency flasher button during steady throttle and I kicked the trans out of overdrive lockout everytime

I'd hunt through the wiring in the column to make sure nothing's melted and fused together.

take the plastic cover off of the steering column. there are three screws from below. you need to unscrew the tilt lever first to pull the lower portion. once hte lower part is off, turn the key to run, stick something int he small hole in the alumunum that is on the underside of the ingnition cylender and pull the cylender out, then take the top plastic off. there will be wires coming out of your shift lever. inspect them very closely. Odds are one of them is frayed and has wire showing through the insilation. you will need to tape it up REALLY GOOD if it isnt too bad, or replace the lever if it has a lot showing and looks worn badly.......Marc
