How hard to rebuild or just fix E40D
I'm looking at buying a 1996 F-350 with the E40D. The transmission has a problem where reverse is basically shot. They say it can get around the yard a bit but couldn't do much else.
How hard to fix? How hard to do a rebuild of the tranny myself or and price range if a tranny shop does it? P.S I'm not looking to do much upgrading to the transmission only because it's going to be a winter plow truck and not my main hauling machine |

A plain rebuild will run around $250 for parts not counting the converter and labor. I did a high end build on mine last winter and dropped about $800 in the parts and almost a grand on the converter and I was quoted $5400+core to build what I have now.
