Burning oil?

I have a 1997 f-250 power stroke. 241,000 on it, motor is all stock with a 4 inch exhaust. auto tranny. I checked the oil on it today and it was about a half inch (maybe less) below the add mark on the dipstick. The oil has a little over 5,000 on it. Is this normal for the amount of miles on the truck? I sent in an oil sample to Peterson Cat and the results showed everything as being normal and the oil did not need changed. I added about 2 quarts to get it in the normal range of the dipstick. Just wondering if there might be problems or if its is normal. Thanks

Two quarts in 5000 miles is pretty low for any vehicle. Even the slightest leak could account for that. Of course, normally one would have checked the oil about TEN times in that 5000-mile interval.

I check every 1000-2000 miles but just notice it was low. I just noticed there was some blue smoke on cold starts so I decided to check if I was burning a lot or what was going on.
