Truck will not start help please

I have a 97 7.3 I purchased from a man that did not run. He told me that he brought it to a mechanic and they told him it was the lift pump . Well I changed out the lift pump and guess what? It still will not start. Its a standard. Need help fast. I'm new to diesels so easy on the diesel terminology please. Thank you and god bless

Without more info, you can check these things to start
  1. Oil level and smell at dipstick
  2. Oil level in the HPOP reservoir top front of engine, allen wrench
  3. Check out the UVCH (under valve cover harness) there are 4- 2 on each side-pop them off and look at the condition of the pins for burned or melted
  4. Check the fuel level in the fuel bowl
  5. Check your rpm when cranking, should be about 200rpm if your tach does not move see number six
  6. The cps (cam position sensor) is known to go bad on these trucks, get one only at Ford and replace the one you have. always good to have spare that stays with the truck
These are the easiest checks I mentioned, for more: Common 7.3 problems
Is it cold where you are? Could be the glow plug relay.

It is more than likely the CPS then. First time I changed mine it took about 20 minutes. But like I said get one only from the Ford dealer. The others sold in Auto parts stores are crap and many don't work right out of the box.

Hope that is your problem, its an easy and fairly cheap fix. I bet there is even a video on youtube

No fuel in the fuel bowl either and there's diesel pooled up in the valley of the motor

Is the fuel pooling near the front or back? If the fuel is near the front it is bowl related if in the back pump related.
Those hoses at the bottom of the fuel bowl to the pump may not be tightened all the way, they're hard to get to and or maybe the banjo bolt is not cranked down enough.

Try filling up the fuel bowl and see if it starts.

If you check the bowl again I bet it will be empty. I think you got a loose fuel connection somewhere and air is getting into the line before the pump. Did you change out the blue fuel lines between the pump and the bowl. One of them may have cracked when changing the pump. They are known to get brittle and crack like that. Maybe someone else will chime in for another opinion, I know just enough to get into trouble.

sounds like fuel line to me, my 96 had them replaced twice. check oil level on hpop and top off with oil, something else to try pull crank sensor and clean the face with carb cleaner or similar cleaner, sometimes that will fix it. it gets a film on it and won`t read lol
