Clutch switch

Got a new to me truck and the cruise did not work. Did some investigating and found that the clutch switch was not there and the plug was cut and wired together. Went to the ford house got a pigtail and went to oreillys and got a switch. Got the switch wired in but when i put the switch in and pressed the clutch pedal the switch comes back with the rod. Making the computer think that the clutch is still pressed and not allowing the cruise to work. Did they redesign the switch becasue the new one i got has a little knob on the firewall side of it. My other truck does not. Any help would be great. Thanks

A pic would help. IIRC the older trucks pre 92ish had a different switch so check the part number. Your switch should clamp to the rod and have some springs that push it away from the pedal when your not pressing it.
