Injector Issues

Hey guys, new to Powerstrokes, but not diesels.

Picked up a ECLB 94 with a bad trans, last weekend i replaced that along with the clutch, it's got a SMFL. but that's not the problem...

It hesitates under steady acceleration and while maintaining cruising speed, though not as noticable. I took my IR temp gun and cylinders 2 and 3 both were running about 20* colder after 3 mins or so after a cold start, all others were at 115*, these were at 95*. Ran a poor mans buzz test, cyl 3 clicked like it was supposed to, cyl 2 just sparked (poppet issue?). with the truck having 277k on it do you think tightening the poppet would fix cyl 2? and cyl 3, is garanteed injector at this point?

lemme know what you guys think, thanks

If you go in there to check the poppet screws, you might as well measure the clearance of the armature plate (with any loose poppets tightened). 0.004" is new while anything less than 0.002" is on the ragged edge of needing injector rebuilds. Cheers!

Replaced the #3 injector, truck is running great, realized all the injectors were squirting oil, just #1 was missing the deflector...how big of a deal is that? as for cyl 2 failing the buzz test i don't know where to go with that, because the truck is running like it should...

Some coils just don't sound like others. It's a test, not a conclusion. If you are really worried about #2 get the engine hot and do a continuity test on that coil. Report your number. Deflector isn't an issue. Just tries to keep oil from blowing all over and these engines don't really do that.

If you want to get another deflector spout:

Injector Oil Deflector Spout
(Ford) F4TZ-9G524-A
(International) 1816111C3

MSRP at Ford is $9.17, but you can find it for $6.05 from some online dealers. Cheers!
