Exclamation HELP!!!! My 1997 F250 Just died going down the road!!

I was driving down the road when she just died. No warning no smoke or anything, no over heating, oil pressure was good. I pulled over waited a min then she refired and died. I started her up again got home about a mile away. Got it in the driveway and now after checking the fuel filter, looks black but not full of grit or anything obvious. Now she won't start. I crank and crank, the oil pressure gauge stays down then suddenly goes to the middle of the gauge. I checked the dipstick and it looks like she might be a little low but there are no puddles or smoke anywhere. Can it be being a little low on oil cause the no run situation. What else could it be? CPS, FPR, HPOP? Please help me I can't afford to take her to the shop to get it fixed. Im fairly mechanical but this is my first diesel so I'm flying blind here. Again any help is greatly appreciated.

Jim

Start cheap and simple, does the tach move while cranking, any smoke coming out of the exhaust while cranking, have your checked the hpop res?

No tach or smoke

The tach does not move and no smoke that I can see coming from the exhaust pipe. So CPS on the left hand side on the front of the motor is the culprit? What about ICP on the fuel bowl. Wiring looks a little soft.

I haven't checked the hpop yet as I don't know how to yet? is it the large plug on the back side of the pump at the top, looks like a 15 to 17mm wrech would fit it. Am I on the right track?\

The res is rite on the front top, ratchet oughta fit fine, no socket required, and CPs is rite next to the crank shaft pulley, and just replace that for now, it's a $20 part

ok i replaced the CPS, now its running rough from 1500 to 3000, feels like its missing on a cylinder or two. It didn't do that before. Im confused as to what could be causing this problem now. I also replaced the fuel filter since I was there anyways. What now?

Can you do a buzz test on it? Check the uvch on both sides make sure they are not messed up or anything, also have you replaced the fuel filter since you said it was black?

how do you do do the "BUZZ TEST"? and I did replace the filter. I looked at the harness going to the drivers side valve cover and it looks really soft. I got some fuel on it when I changed the filter. Could it be shorting out? How much do they cost? its the harness that plugs into the valve cover harness that looks bad to me.
