injector pressure reg.?

hi im new here. im looking at buying a 7.3 powerstroke with about 250k on it. its a 95. its a little hard to start but not too bad. at idle you can feel the engine missing and when driving too. the whole truck shakes a little. at WOT theres kinda a lot of grey smoke comming out of exhaust but close to none at idle and guy says its the IPR? what do you guys think. is he right or is engine on its last leg?

Get the motor warm and remove the oil fill cap. Does it haze or does it BLOW smoke? Put the cap back on but upside down, does the air blow the cap off the port or does the motors vibration shake it off? The miss can be several things. The IPR might just need to be cleaned and resealed ('bout $23 from or it could need to be replaced (closer to $170 new but someone sells a rebuilt IPR much cheaper). Can also be the ICP (Injector Control Pressure), UVCH (Under Valve Cover Harness), Injector/s, or HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump, fuel leak on the main harness cross shorting wires, FP (Fuel Pump), clogged FPR screen (Fuel Pressure Regulator).

First things first, IF you decide to buy it change all fluids. This issue can just be old oil in the motor too and change the CPS (Cam Position Sensor). The CPS is good for about 2 years sometimes more, sometimes less. Get two and keep the spare and a 10mm 1/4 drive deep socket and 1/4 drive ratchet in the glove box. It will die again. Most any shop will do a pre-purchase inspection of a vehicle for $200. Might be worth it if you know the Mechanic. If the seller says no walk away...
