Exhuast stinks and is burning my eyes

Hi all, new to me truck - its a 1997 F350 twin line wrecker.

On a cold start I get a little blue/white smoke that clears pretty quickly - less than 1 minuite. I get no other smoke ever. Idle, High Idle, Full Throttle etc.

It seems to cold start just fine, lacks a lot of power untill the exhaust valve thing has opened but after that pulls well.

It doesn't sound as Rattely (diesel knock) as my old 6.2 chev but I'm guessing that's mainly down to the PCM control?

The thing is the exhaust smell on this thing stinks and its burning my eyes when I have it at High idle (1300rpm). I have it set up at those RPM's for the PTO for the wrecker deck. By the time I've loaded a vehicle and hooked the safetys up my eyes are running and I have to go and get some fresh air.

The smell sticks in my clothes and hair etc. It smells like a Gas engine with a lot of Hydrocarbons (unburnt gas)

Right now the exhaust is exiting under the wrecker deck and pointing to the back. I can try extend it and get it to exit out of the side but I thought I would ask if this is a typical issue with these or should I be looking for issues?

i would think since there is no black smoke or un burned fuel coming out of ur exhaust nor white smoke is coming out its just were the exhaust is exiting on my tractor when im on the back hoe my eyes will be unfire do to the exhaust dumping . i would just say bring ur exhaust out past the rear wheel . hot air rises so when ur working on ur deck its just all rising up and into ur face
