rough start

my 95 has unknown mileage (po replaced engine) truck has approx. 290,000. it has of late been hard to start. it will cough, spit, and attempt to start, but wont. after five or six attempts, it will usually start, run at a low idle for a few seconds, then run normal. temps have varied from upper 20's to 70's weird nc weather in december, i have replaced the gpr with the stancor unit. it started fine immediately afterwards for a few days and now back to the same old problem. anybody have any ideas?

sounds like you got a faulty relay. you could also have bad wiring or bad glow plugs. what color is the smoke when it sputters?

i had to replace an injector about 2 yrs. and approx 10000 mi. ago, and the harnesses looked really good then. i have a sneaky "gut" feeling that it is a glow plug issue. how do you test them correctly. and yes i do have a good digital voltmeter.

it could also be your UVCH the connectors often melt and it could be causing a bad glow plug connection pull off the connectors and check them all out for melting and/or damage

ok, i go out around lunch time today, got down in the 30's last night, mid 40's today and windy. turned key on hear gpr click, wts light goes off wait about 30 sec. more, then attempt to start. it bucks, chugs, tries to fire, but wont. after about 20 tries, still no start. i plug in the heater and leave it for about five hrs. come back home, go out, turn key on let the wts light go off, wait again a few seconds, fires on first try, what's up?
