need some help any ideas??

hey guys i have a 96 7.3td ive noticed that sometimes when im driving it sounds like the exhaust is being restricted and my exhaust temps are alot higher than normal it has no power at all and pours out black smoke when i get on it then it will just stop and run normal??i do have a banks brake on it but i dont think it works ive watched videos on youtube with trucks that have them and it dosent sound like theres it sounds like it on all the time then it will just fix its self can i unhook it?please help

Check the map sensor..it can wig out..plus your exhaust warmup valve could be the problem make sure its staying open.
