Smoke out turbo cold start

I'm a new diesel owner and I've been reading on here and learned that cold starts make lots of white smoke. It is not that cold where I live and this morning, first time this has happened, the engine wouldn't start, it kept turning and white smoke was coming out of the tailpipe and the turbo where it meets the DP. It took a couple tries before it started and ran normal. It was only 55 F this morning. Am I paranoid, is this normal? or is there a problem? A week ago I had the fuel pump replaced. I don't know if that might have anything to do with it.

Thanks guys I appreciate it!
