moderate oil consumption

I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death, but I'm hoping some of you may be able to point in the right direction or to other threads on the subject.

'96 250 with 240k miles. Starting to see moderate oil consumption, generally during second half of oil life. So, it won't consume hardly any oil for the first 2 or 3k of an oil change. Then, during the last 2k or so, it will consume some oil. 1 or 2 quarts / 1k miles. Consumption seems higher around town than on the highway.

No issues with smoking. Did an efuel conversion (deadhead) so can't check the fuel bowl for any oil.

Power is generally good. Seems to have decreased a bit on the low end over the 100k that I have owned the truck.

Fuel economy has always averaged around 12 since I've owned the truck.

Thanks for any pointers!

Do you know if the injector o-rings have been changed? If they haven't I would probably do it (even if it was just to do it ... 240k is a lot on a set of o-rings!). Cheers!

No, o rings and injectors are stock. 240 is a lot of miles, but it isn't showing the high consumption that I've read about others having when an o ring goes.

I wonder about blow by. since it seems to consume more around town (colder engine), I wonder if there is a bit of ring hardening going on. However, I'm not nearly a good enough mechanic to dive in and diagnose that.

Thanks.

My 350 uses about a gallon between oil changes. It has about 400,000 on it and no orings or injectors.
