fuel pressuer regulator leak

Hey all
I installed a new lift pump last night following directions I found on this site and they said to remove the fuel pressure regulator from the side of the fuel bowl. On mine there was a steel line coming out of the bottom of the fuel pressure regulator going to the fuel bowl. Not seeing this or reading about it when I pried back the fuel pressure regulator the hard line came out of the bottom on the regulator side. Was that correct? Nothing holds that line in the fuel pressure regulator other than the tight fit when its all together. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hold please. I'll need to get home and pull mine out of a box to see it. Maybe someone else will chime in before I get back tonight.
