7.3 oil pan seal
hey guys soo im new to the 7.3 i had a 6.0 for a while and couldnt take the problems anymore. Anyways a picked up a mint 97 with 70k today and it had the oil pan replaced a few months ago but whoever made the gasket did a hack job and when running and under pressure oil leaks out the front of the pan right in the little half moon...i want to reseal it but im not pulling the motor to take the pan off to scape and clean the RTV gasket....You guys have any suggestions? The sides and rear of the pan hold fine but the front leaks pretty good
anything helps, Thanks |

1st clean the hell out of the front of the engine. make sure where the leak is coming from. If the pan was just replaced I would put money on the front main seal.
If it is the pan,Pull the engine. There is no gasket on the 7.3. It uses Gray RTV from International. It is some wicked good stuff. You would most likely destroy the pan trying to pry it away from the block trying to reseal it in the truck |
