starts,runs,drives...then wont restart

95 fsuperduty 7.3

first noticed problem , last few trips;

engine cold = starts more often on first few cranks

engine warm/hot = need to crank it over a bit longer before she'd re-start
----------------------------------------------------------------------
replaced cam position sensor = started right up, but it was cool engine

went to store 1/2 mile = no re-start

waited until engine cool = still difficult to re-start, but was able to FORCE a start by 'pumping' the starter in short bursts and finally she sputtered alive

----------------------------------------------------------------------

replaced fuel filter

slaved in IDM from other

= same issue

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Looking for diesel tech in MN...

today it started cold

ran it around the neighborhood, came back and would not start

unplugged ICP and it will start

plug it back in , wont start

Does this mean the ICP is doing its job or not?

Exact same thing happened to mine, right before I replaced the HPOP. I would say that you need to do the same.

The guy that I had replace it for me is a Master Tech at Ford but he did it at his own shop. He put a new IPR in and determined that that was not the problem before he just replaced the HPOP. The IPR was only about 6 months old anyways. Then he just changed the HPOP and she runs like a bat out of hell.

Thank you for your input. I've considered doing this myself, but for the amount of time it will take me vs just going to work I may be better off meeting a good diesel mech

If you can't find a good diesel mechanic I would go to a reputable Ford stearlership and ask to talk to the head diesel tech, ask him if he works on them on his own time. A lot of them do. This guy charged me $1200 and he bought all the parts.

I'd look at the IPR orings.

You need to get the truck on a scan tool and see some live data like ICP psi. and IPR dc%
