starts,runs,drives...then wont restart
95 fsuperduty 7.3
first noticed problem , last few trips; engine cold = starts more often on first few cranks engine warm/hot = need to crank it over a bit longer before she'd re-start ---------------------------------------------------------------------- replaced cam position sensor = started right up, but it was cool engine went to store 1/2 mile = no re-start waited until engine cool = still difficult to re-start, but was able to FORCE a start by 'pumping' the starter in short bursts and finally she sputtered alive ---------------------------------------------------------------------- replaced fuel filter slaved in IDM from other = same issue ![]() Thanks in advance for any advice! Looking for diesel tech in MN... |

update
today it started cold
ran it around the neighborhood, came back and would not start unplugged ICP and it will start plug it back in , wont start Does this mean the ICP is doing its job or not? |

Exact same thing happened to mine, right before I replaced the HPOP. I would say that you need to do the same.

replace hpop / ipr
from what i read i thought the hpop could be rebuilt, or possibly sealed up with new o rings
also did you first replace your ipr today i slaved in an icp from other truck and same issue i believe i will be checking the ipr next thanks for the help |

The guy that I had replace it for me is a Master Tech at Ford but he did it at his own shop. He put a new IPR in and determined that that was not the problem before he just replaced the HPOP. The IPR was only about 6 months old anyways. Then he just changed the HPOP and she runs like a bat out of hell.

Thank you for your input. I've considered doing this myself, but for the amount of time it will take me vs just going to work I may be better off meeting a good diesel mech

Also today it wouldn't even start with the icp unplugged

If you can't find a good diesel mechanic I would go to a reputable Ford stearlership and ask to talk to the head diesel tech, ask him if he works on them on his own time. A lot of them do. This guy charged me $1200 and he bought all the parts.

I'd look at the IPR orings.
You need to get the truck on a scan tool and see some live data like ICP psi. and IPR dc% |
