95 powerstoke sputtered then died

I have a 95 powerstroke, I was driving home and notice a small sputter in my motor it gradually got worse then had total powerloss and the motor died.
Tried cranking motor over and it was real rough and blowing a ton of white smoke. I let it sit for about an hour and it fired right up I started to drive again after about ten miles I got the same result. Drove it on the trailer and got it home. Any ideas?
