tapping noise???

i have a 97 f350 7.3 powerstroke and just installed a new 5 speed tranny, clutch, and solid mass fly wheel. My new problem is at an idle the truck sounds fine,no smoke,or anything else. But when you bring the rpm up to 2500 the engine makes a tapping sound like a lfter tap.Does anyone have any ideas what it could be??? I am wondering if a push rod bent when the tranny went out and over reved the engine. The tranny went out doing 70mp down the freeway. The engine never locked up the wheels but not sure if it didnt do any engine damage.I have heard the lifter usually dont go bad in these engines but could use some help.....

wish i could help you, wide open 97, i also have a tapping/rattling sound, but mine is oposite yours, mine is at idle, and goes away when you come up on the rpms. i have been told that mine is likely a tooth chipped off of one of the gears in the front, but haven't torn into it yet. there are some VERY smart people on here, so i won't be surprised if someone diagnoses your problem.

Are you sure its not just the diesel rattle and you over thinking it due to the trans going out also check you oil if it has to do with the lifters
