96 with a drive problem please help

i have a 96 powerstroke and on a trip it start not wanting to to rev over 2000 all the time if i hold to the floor it will rev up but then i let if i got to hold it down to get to rev up again.. it does the same thing when going down the road will accelerate than it will like slow down and hold the throttle down and it will start to go faster after ahwile it will get going again than slow down again it has 280000 miles on her help thanks

Check the camshaft position sensor(cps)

I had something similar happen to me found out it was one of the uvch only one of the tails went out so was down 2 injector

how go about testing the cps when not throwing any codes going to pull valve covers today

Sometimes a CPS won't throw any codes but thats what it sounds like to me. Even if the CEL isn't on there could still be codes.

so tore the valve covers off and all the plugs were good condition going to try the cps next.. it idles fine but once u take off its like it runs out of fuel

i replace the cps and it runs better but will die some times and run rough itermittably
