96 Powerstroke Rough Idle

I need some input. I have my friends 96 powerstroke and it has a pretty rough idle ... almost like a miss. no codes and seems to run ok on the road. my first thought was the valve cover gaskets or under valve cover harness as my excursion did the same thing except I got codes on it any thoughts? Thanks

BUMP. Did you find the problem? My 95 is doiing the same. Rough idle kinda lopey, but it also runs fine down the road hot or cold.

Fuel Filter or FPR screen also if you have a 5 speed the clutch. Also what happens is when the fuel pump gets old it causes the fuel pressure to flutter and the engine RPM will go with it
