96 7.3 psd no start, tons of white smoke

I have a 96 f250 7.3 psd with 210k miles. I just traded for this truck. The other day i was driving down the interstate and it started missing very badly. i pulled to the shoulder and shut it off. It started right back up and ran fine for a few more days. I went outside to head to work and made it 50 ft from the driveway when the same thing happened again. I shut it down again and started it back up and it ran about 10 seconds before happening again. I drove it missing back to the house and shut it down. I tried starting it the next day and im getting tons of white and blue/black smoke and no start. Enough smoke to cover the truck in a few seconds. I got it to start back 1 more time and it ran fine for a few seconds again and the exhaust cleared up. I havent been able to get it to start since. Any ideas? I am a mechanic but i am not very experianced with light duty diesels. A buddy I work with is coming tomorrow with a scanner to check codes. Thanks -Matt
