Starter grind, becoming frequent

Hey guys, after fixing a plethora of issues on my recently aquired psd, it's still giving me grief. Sometimes when I try to start it, the starter makes a noise as if it's spinning but not engaging. I drive an automatic 4x4. I used to be able to shift it from park to neutral and try again, and it'd start right up. It progressively become more and more frequent, probably twice/month. Now it seems 2-3 times/week. And I now have to keep trying between park and neutral many times until I get lucky. I had this problem before I replaced the starter, which I just replaced 2 months ago with a brand new oem unit. I'll check the torque on the mounting bolts later, though I doubt that's my problem. The teeth looked good too. What else could it be-is there something I need to clean/lube up?

Posting a follow-up. My truck took a million attempts at cranking to start after work tonight. It was bad. So finally when I managed to get it started I got home and got underneath. Sure as $hit, the starter bolts backed out. I just hope I didn't **** up my flexplate. And now to replace my damn fuel pump....
