Dead truck on the interstate??

94.5 stock 5 speed. Ran great for 100 miles then lost power. I shut it down for about 20 minutes then started back up and ran fine for 1/2 hour or so. Had the same power loss. Truck dosn't show high temp. HPOP is full. Fuel filter replaced this week. No smoke. Check engine light never came on. 2nd time I lost power it stalled and won't start. Tach shows rpms when cranking.

Fuel issue?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Brett

Sounds like IPR orings are shot. That will cause a no start when warm. Or if it is running, as it heats up, it will run like crap then die. The ipr valve is behind the hpop. There is a connector that could be giving you problems as well. The IPR connector pigtail is known to breakdown from fuel (during filter changes, soaking the pigtail). It could short out. Also check the tin nut on the IPR coil and make sure it is tight. I would guess the orings though.

I looked at the ipr tin nut and it seems fine. Any other way to test for the orings, or do you have to pull the injectors and take a look.??

Thanx for the come back

Not injector orings... The orings on the ipr. You have to pull the ipr.

Also the cam sensor can cause the same problem. My 96 went threw them like crazy. My 2001 sounds similar to what your problem is.

Thanks for the info. I switched cps with no luck. Mechanic at the shop said ipr tested fine. Showing codes for IDM. I've ordered a rebuilt one, Ford wants 950$ for a new one and that's steep for a beater truck... We'll see tomorrow.

Again thanks + I'll post the IDM results...

You know I did not even think of the idm. Its on the drivers side fender correct? If I remember right I had a buddy who got one from napa a lot cheaper. I know they have to have a bunch of information to match it to the new one.

I ordered a rebuilt IDM from a place in Florida for 135$ (+ core), matched the part numbers. Should know more tomorrow.

Is your IDM corroded on the side where it mounts to the fenderwell? Just curious if water intrusion was the cause of the failure.
