Engine Probelms
Got a 95 7.3L with a few issues. When starting it turns over a few times before starting, a good 2 seconds when warm or longer if cold. When I start it cold (sitting atleast 12 hours with or without block heater) it is hard to start, the engine revs up and down giving a "whomp, whomp, whomp" sound until it finally settles out. If I give it a little fuel it helps some. Other issue is that when running I get smoke coming out of the oil dipstick. Not enough to dislodge it, but does come out from around the seem. And I also have shine of oil in my radiator fluid. The engine was supposedly rebuilt 60K ago when I bought it, but I am already having to replace water pump and High pressure oil lines.

is it oil or fuel in your antifreeze? Fuel, would be caused by bad injector O rings. As far as the sound its making at start up/idle...unplug the EBPV on the turbo. It'll be the only 2 wire plug on the drivers side of the turbo. You may have a bad EBPS, causing the EBPV to open and shut. Check the EBPS metal line, runs dowm the frt right side of the engine, to the RS exhaust manifold. They get rust holes in them, and sometimes clog up, causing problems.
