Vacuum Pump issues
Last year, the vacuum pump on my 97 7.3 took a dump, chewed up the belt, yadda yadda yadda. So I bought a A1 Cardone reman, a new Dayco belt. I noticed then that it made a kind of "honking" sound as the engine was cranking, and you could notice it at idle. I wrote it off figuring a new pump and would quiet down.
Fast forward to this morning, otw to work, at a stoplight, sounds like a cricket is in the cab with me, I don't think that much about it, but notice the rpm drop occasionally kind of like it's laboring to idle. At this point I'm about .75 miles from work, I make it to the next light, crickets stop, start smelling some burning belt, brake warning lamp comes on in the dash, hit the pedal, hard as a rock!,
I fought it in the parking lot, popped the hood and sure enough the pump was locked up tighter than a drum, Luckily nothing else was harmed besides the belt that was obviously smoked.
I went ahead and swapped it out on my lunch break with another A1 reman, due to it being under warranty, and another new Dayco belt.
New pump same "honking" noise, is this normal or do I need to be ordering a pump from Ford.
