I have a '95 turbo 7.3 that has starting actting up in the last week. The first thing was fuel filter light came on we replaced that and now the major problems started. The truck died randomly when driving home (no check engine lite or anything). We got home and started running codes and reading thru the forums, decided it was CPS we ordered one and while waiting for it to be delivered we had more issuses. The truck now idles exteremly rough, and is blowing white smoke and the check engine lite now comes on, also when driving down any road we can lose the engine completly. We replaced the CSP yesterday and i drove the truck 45 miles on highway, when i let off the throttle the truck would die and check engine lite still comes on. The truck will start back up and codes are cleared for about 2-5 miles and than it starts over again... Any help or ideas would be nice!

Well, when I left the career as a Ford mechanic the Powerstrokes hadn't come out yet. For that matter neither did the 7.3 IDI. Since I've never had a problem with mine yet that required diagnostics, I've not had to run down running problems on a PSD. To the best of my understanding.....
po472 could be caused by a clogged tube from the manifold to the sensor. They can be cleaned. po603 can be caused by a chip/programmer and can be ignored (I think). Does it still set po340 with the new CPS? From vast experience with EEC III and IV systems though, it's generally best to address the codes first before looking for the proverbial 'needle in a haystack'. I basically asked you to post the codes so that others with more experience with these the OBD system on these things could help. I'm still at work and don't have the manuals in front of me. Hopefully, someone with actual experience with these will have more insight. If I get time tonight, I'll dig out the manual and see what it says. |
